Past Training: Policy through an Inclusion Lens
Policies guide an organization’s day-to-day activities and decision-making and are essential tools to further your inclusion goals. Conducting a policy review is an excellent way to determine if policies are missing or may need adaptation in the quest for creating and maintaining an inclusive workplace.
The design of this workshop was for staff who are responsible for writing and reviewing policies within the organization. We provided an opportunity for participants to begin reviewing some of their organizational policies through an inclusion lens to assess strengths and gaps in policy. The facilitators supported participants in developing an organizational inclusion policy if one does not already exist.
About the facilitators
Roxanne Felix-Mah: Roxanne has more than seventeen years of experience working in equity and inclusion in the fields of health promotion, community-based research, evaluation, settlement, and anti-racism in the private, public and non-profit sectors. These diverse experiences serve as a backdrop for her work in community capacity building, community development and mentorship.
Ashima Sumaru-Jurf: Ashima has facilitated, coordinated and managed programs related to immigration and migration, intercultural competency, anti-racism, literacy, adult education, and organizational effectiveness in the not-for-profit and government sectors. She has worked with communities and organizations throughout Alberta to build inclusive and equitable spaces and to help find strengths-based solutions to the challenges we face.
