Bamboo Shield

In 2014, CRC is partnering with the Somali Canadian Cultural Society of Edmonton (SCCSE). Community members and youth mentors deliver a life skills program to Somali Canadian youth, steeped in their culture.

bambooBamboo Shield is an intensive youth intervention program that provides personal and life-skills coaching to Somali Canadian youth that have grown up in challenging circumstances. These youth benefit by strengthening their confidence and self-esteem. Youth learn how factors beyond their control have influenced their life opportunities. Led by a qualified professional who uses culturally sensitive teaching. The goal is to increase participants’ capacity to make healthy decisions.

Funding from City of Edmonton Emerging Communities Partnership Grant and Alberta Human Rights Education and Multiculturalism Fund.
